DAY 1 - Saturday – Amsterdam

Arrival in Amsterdam and transfer to hotel. Free time for a first contact with the city of canals. Boat trip on the canals. Dinner under own arrangement and accommodation.

DAY 2 - Amsterdam

After breakfast at the hotel, head to the starting location for a panoramic tour to discover the most interesting places in town: Mint Tower, Rokin, the floating flower market, Dam Square, the Royal Palace, and the Nieuwe Kerk and the National Monument, the Beurs van Berlage, Central Station, St. Nicholas Church, the Jewish quarter of the seventeenth century, etc. Also visit a diamond factory, where he will attend a demonstration of diamond cutting and an exhibition of the various types of precious stones. Afternoon free to explore other parts of the city or visit one of its museums such as the Van Gogh and the Rijksmuseum, which houses some of the most important works of the great Dutch artists. (B)

DAY 3 - Amsterdam – The Hague – Delft – Rotterdam – Amsterdam

After breakfast at the hotel, head to the starting location for a trip to Rotterdam, The Hague and Delft. A great impression of Holland, which will begin with a visit to Rotterdam, famous for its modern architecture. During the city tour, drive along the banks of the Meuse, the old port and the striking yellow cube houses. Enjoy incredible views from the top of the Euromast tower, 185 meters high. Then we will go to Delft, where we have lunch (not included) and make a visit to a factory of Delft Blue. Then visit the Hague, our Parliament and the Peace Palace. Our last stop is the miniature city Madurodam. Return to Amsterdam. (B)

DAY 4 - Amsterdam – Dutch Countryside

After breakfast at the hotel, head out to the starting location for an excursion that will give you a complete picture of this land and its people. During this excursion you will see Zaanse Schans, the picturesque windmill village, with its typical green timbered houses and warehouses. Here we will visit a working windmill. Other highlights during this excursion include the famous and lively fishing village of Volendam (where we will visit a cheese factory/museum and give you time for lunch at a traditional fish restaurant) and the boat trip to or from the former island of Marken, where we will visit a local traditional clog maker. Return to Amsterdam around 15: 00h. Transfer from the hotel to the train station and travel to Brussels Arriving in Brussels. Transfer from the station to the hotel. (B)

DAY 5 - Brussels – Bruges – Ghent – Brussels

Breakfast at the hotel and head out to the starting location for a trip to Bruges and Ghent. After an hour’s drive, we arrive in GHENT and visit St Bavo’s Cathedral, home of the world famous late medieval “Mystic Lamb” painting (optional visit, closed on Sundays). During the city tour you will see all important ancient buildings for which the city is so famous: The Belfry, St Nicholas’ Church and the famous Graslei with its historic buildings, the fortified castle of the Count of Flanders. Next, we take you to BRUGES, where we first visit the dreamy Lake of Love and the Béguinage where you can find peace and quiet. Time for lunch. Afterwards we start our walking tour and discover all the highlights of the city: Saint John’s Hospital, Our Lady’s Church with the statue by Michelangelo (optional), the Market Square with the Belfry and the medieval Chapel of the Holy Blood. Don’t forget your walking shoes though! Return to Brussels. (B)

DAY 6 - Brussels – Antwerp – Brussels

Breakfast at the hotel and free morning. In the afternoon we head to the starting location for an excursion to Antwerp. Antwerp is Belgium’s 2nd largest city and Europe’s 2nd largest harbor. The city has preserved its historic character and many buildings remind us of its rich past. Above all, it is the city of RUBENS, the world-famous master of the 17th century. We drive to the ancient fortress of the city. Here we start our walking tour along the “Meathouse” to the Market Square with its ancient houses and Our Lady’s Cathedral (entrance fee included). This cathedral boasts many treasures among which 4 of Rubens’ masterworks: “The Erection of and the Descent from the Cross, the Ascension of the Virgin and the Resurrection.” Some free time in the city center. Then by coach to the beginning of the port with its splendid new MAS museum that has been opened. You have a splendid view from the 9th floor of the port, Europe’s 2nd largest. Also, here you can have a look at the Diamonds of the Diamond Pavillion as Antwerp is the world’s diamond center. MAS is closed on Mondays. Return to Brussels and accommodation. (B)

DAY 7 - Brussels – Luxembourg and Bastogne – Brussels

Breakfast at the hotel and head out to the starting location for a trip to Luxembourg and Bastogne. We need a 3 hrs. drive to arrive in Luxembourg, the capital of the Grand Duchy. Our guide takes you to the many historic sites of the city, both in the upper and lower part of the city. The picturesque historical town, the cathedral, the palace of the Grand Duke and the Place d’Armes. During our walk towards to the lower part of the city you will have an excellent view on some buildings of the EU on the plateau of Kirchberg. Once in the valley you will admire the important fortifications and kazemates, the historic abbey of Neumünster, the Wenceslaswall and the beautiful setting on the Alzette river. Before leaving, you have free time in the city center. Through the green hills of the Belgian Ardennes we drive to Bastogne. During Christmas 1944 the town was the site of the worst battle between the allied (American) and German forces. We visit the Mardasson memorial. After a stop at the Place Mac Auliffe, we return to Brussels at around 21:00h. (B)

DAY 8 - Brussels and departure

Breakfast at the hotel and head out to the starting location for a sightseeing visit of Brussels. We start our visit by driving along the magnificent St. Michaels’ cathedral towards the Laeken district: we see the Royal Residence, the Chinese Pavillion, the Japanese Tower and the world famous Atomium. Further to the national Basilica of Koekelberg, with its splendid art deco interior and one of the most imposing churches in the world. Situated on a hill, 2 lifts bring us some 53 meters above the ground where you will have a splendid view on the city (visit included). Driving back to the city center, we pass along the column of Congres towards the stately Place Royale, the Sablon district with its elegant stores selling beautiful antiques, and the impressive Law Courts. Then we reach the Royal Palace and enter the European district with the buildings and offices of the European Parliament, the European Commission and Council of Ministers. In the Park of the Jubilee you will marvel at the monumental Triumphal Arch and some excellent examples of Art Nouveau houses. Passing the Royal Parc and the Belgian Parliament we drive back to the city center: our tour ends on the beautiful Grand’ Place where our guide tells us the history of the unique city hall and splendid guild houses.
