DAY 1 - Arrival Delhi

Arrive in Delhi International airport by your international flight. After immigration, you will be met and transferred to hotel for your stay (Hotel check in time is 1400 hrs). Delhi is India’s capital and a major gateway to the country. Perhaps there is no other capital city in the world so steeped in history and legend as the Indian capital Delhi. It was the magnet, which drew the Mongols, Turks, Persians, Afghans, Mughals and the British, all of whom contributed to its glorious but turbulent past. The fascination with Delhi was such that even though it was abandoned many times, its rulers returned to it again and again rebuilding it at least seven times. Today, the twin cities of Old and New Delhi still intrigue Indians and tourists alike as the cultural and political capital of the largest democracy in the world. Overnight stay at the hotel

DAY 2 - Delhi

: Start your day by visiting Old Delhi and visit Jama Masjid - the largest mosque in India built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in year 1650 AD and completed in the year 1656 AD. From here you will board cycle rickshaws for a tour of Chandni Chowk (Silver Street). Here you will get a glimpse into an old-world lifestyle slowly fading from Delhi. The hustle and bustle of everyday life can be felt in the Chandni Chowk's narrow lanes. Board the bus after the rickshaw ride, going past the Red Fort (photo stop), and you will disembark at the Raj Ghat – a memorial to Mahatma Gandhi, set within a beautiful park. New Delhi was designed and built by the British in the 1920's-it's a city of wide boulevards impressive Government buildings, green parks and gardens. In 1911 King George V announced the transfer of the capital from Calcutta to Delhi. The King's architects, Lutyens and Baker, set in motion the Design and construction of Delhi's eighth city - New Delhi. Continue to the World Heritage Site of Humayun’s Tomb, the first garden tomb of Indian sub-continent, built in the mid-16th century under the governance of the Mughal Emperor Akbar in honor of his father, Humayun. It is known as a predecessor of the Taj Mahal for its similarities in form and shape. (B, D)

DAY 3 - Delhi – Jaipur

After breakfast, drive to Jaipur. Jaipur – the capital of Rajasthan province is known for its arts and crafts, jewellery, hand-painted fabrics and stone sculptures; it is one of North India’s finest examples of a planned city embodying the best of Rajput and Mughal architecture. Arrive and check in at hotel. (B, D)

DAY 4 - Jaipur

Post breakfast depart for an excursion tour to fabulous Amber Fort, Maharaja Man Singh, Mughal Emperor Akbar’s most successful General, started the construction of Amber Fort in the 17th century. Before the City Palace was constructed in Jaipur, Amber was the seat of power. The fort is surrounded by fortified battlements and overlooks the Moat Lake. Ruins and remains are spread over the Aravalli hills and sprawling crenulated walls lattice the surrounding area. A Jeep Ride at Amber Fort will spare you the trouble of reaching up to the fortress. Once on top, stroll through the sprawling complex of courtyards and halls, many of the rooms have delightful wall paintings, with precious stones and mirrors inlaid in the walls. Most fascinating, perhaps, is the Sheesh Mahal (hall of mirrors) where a single lamplight is reflected in the many mirrors, lighting up the room. Later, visit Jantar Mantar, an observatory built by Sawai Jai Singh ll in the 18th century. The Maharajah, a scientist as well as an astronomer, had the principles of Euclid translated into Sanskrit. One of the most remarkable sites in Jaipur, the Jantar Mantar has fourteen major geometric devices for measuring time, predicting eclipses and tracking stars and planets. Continue to the City Palace built within the fortified area of the original city, with one of the finest monumental entrances in India. The Palace is now principally a museum housing a collection of great treasures, including miniature paintings, carpets, royal garments and other interesting objects from Jaipur's intriguing past. The former royal family retains a part of the palace for their personal use. (B, D)

DAY 5 - Jaipur – Agra

Morning after breakfast, proceed for Agra, en-route stop at Abhaneri - a village about 95 kms from Jaipur on the Jaipur-Agra Road. A detour is well merited for its amazing stepwell or 'baoris' and Harshat Mata Temple. According to a legend, the village is so called because the Goddess Harshat Mata, who is portrayed in a joyous mood and is believed to spread brightness or ``abha`` all around. The village's original name was Abha Nagri and its present name is Abhaneri. It is believed that the celebrated king Raja Chand established the village. On the other hand, mythological Raja Chand could be King Bhoja, who ruled over the Gujar kingdom in the ninth century AD. The ruins of the temple also speak of the 10th century architectural and sculptural styles. There is a huge tank named ``Chand Baori``, opposite to the temple fortified on all four sides with bastions for defence. Continue drive to Agra. Arrive and straight drive to Agra Fort, the seat and the stronghold of the Mughal Empire under successive generations. Approachable by two imposing gates and constructed of red sandstone, the citadel was built by the Mughal Emperor Akbar between the years 1565 and 1573. Encircled by a moat, this dramatic city within a city was the palace of three emperors, Akbar, Shah Jehan and Aurangzeb, each of whom made significant contributions to the wonderful architecture of the inner buildings – a combination of Persian (Islamic) and local Hindu styles. (B, D)

DAY 6 - Agra

Early morning, visit Taj Mahal (closed on Friday). It is fitting to see this extraordinary monument by the first light of day as its exemplary beauty is awe-inspiring and will create an unforgettable memory. Said to be one of the most elegant and harmonious buildings in the world, Taj Mahal was built by Mughal Emperor Shahjahan in 1630 AD to enshrine the mortal remains of his beloved Queen Mumtaz Mahal. Taj Mahal manifests the wealth and luxury of Mughal art as seen in architecture and garden design, painting, and calligraphy. The 144-foot double dome of the Taj is capped with a finial and the four minarets each 131 ft high and crowned by an open octagonal pavilion highlight the perfect symmetry of the tomb. Return to hotel for breakfast and rest of the morning is at leisure. Afternoon visit the 18th century Roman Catholic Cemetery - re-living a cross cultural mix that has never made it into history books and traveler's itineraries. Later walk through the Civil lines area and explore the old part of Agra and its hidden alleys. Later volunteer your time at Mission of Charity. Amidst the busyness and the touristy part of Agra, it is heartwarming to see great love and care in this place. Eye opening and touching the heart deeply when seeing so many people ranging from babies to old folks are being taken care of. There are around 45 children in their care, some very young, some with disabilities. There are also over 100 adults that are unable to care for themselves. Evening is free to explore the local markets. (B, D)

DAY 7 - Agra – Jhansi, Jhansi – Khajuraho

After breakfast transfer to train station to board the train to Jhansi. Assistance upon arrival and straight drive to Khajuraho. Khajuraho was built by the Chandela dynasty, which rose to power in Central India between the 10th and 11th centuries and is home to some 25 odd temples depicting the different facets of life, including the erotic. These erotic carvings on some panels have given rise to much speculation since Khajuraho’s rediscovery by a British officer in 1838. To preserve it for posterity, Khajuraho has been declared a World Heritage Site and is among the prominent destinations on the world tourism map. Upon arrival check in at hotel. (B, D)

DAY 8 - Khajuraho – Varanasi

Buffet breakfast at hotel and check out then depart for sightseeing tour of the Western Group of Temples which represent the finest examples of Temple architecture in Northern India. In the realm of architecture, Khajuraho holds a unique position. The temples here were built between 950 and 1050 A.D. by the Chandela dynasty, which claims descent from the Moon God and a mortal, Hemavati, with whom the god fell in love. The Chandelas built 85 temples and some 22 survive today. Architecturally the temples have some unique features. Although famous for erotic depictions, these form only a small part of the wealth of the site. Taken in totality, the sculptures of Khajuraho depict the everyday life of the people and the court in the 10th and 11th centuries. Khajuraho is not something that can be described in words; it has to be experienced. Afternoon transfer to airport to take your flight to Varanasi. The ‘eternal city’, Varanasi or Benares, is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in India, and the Ganges, which flows through the city, is believed to have the power to wash away the sins of mortals. For the Satpious Hindu, the city has always been a special place, and it is considered a particularly auspicious place to die, ensuring an instant routing to Heaven. Assistance upon arrival and transfer to hotel for check in. Later in the evening, watch the illuminated aarti ceremony that is performed at Dasahwamedh Ghat.
